Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs - Mail Services

When is tuition due?
All tuition and fees are due before the beginning of the semester. If you are receiving a loan, grant, or scholarship, you will have two weeks after classes begin to remit payment on your outstanding balance.

When is my housing rent due?
Residence Hall charges are due at the beginning of the semester. A student may elect to pay in equal installments over the semester with the first installment due at the beginning of the semester. Subsequent payments are due the 15th of each month thereafter.

When are late fees and holds applied?
If you have an unpaid balance, tuition late fees are applied to your account every month during the semester. The first late fee is $20 and thereafter they are $10 up to a maximum of $50 per semester.

Housing late fees are applied once a month ($20 each time) after the due date if the remaining housing balance is not paid in accordance with the housing payment policy.

Holds are placed on student accounts that have balances. These holds will prevent the student from enrolling, receiving a transcript, and participating in various student activities.

What if I overpay on my account and should receive a refund?
General refund disbursement will be in mid September for Fall and in mid February for Spring. Any credits to your account after these dates will be processed on an as needed basis.

What if I decide not to attend NSU after I have already enrolled?
If a student withdraws during the first two weeks of school, he/she will receive a 100% refund. After the first two weeks of classes, there are no refunds.

What if I have financial aid?
Grants, loans and scholarships will be applied to the student's account during the second week of classes. Any financial aid credited above the actual charges will be refunded to the student within one week of the financial aid application.

What is a Line of Credit?
Students receiving financial aid or scholarships will be given a line of credit prior to the beginning of the semester. The line of credit allows these students to charge Bookstore and Food Service purchases against their financial aid or scholarships during the designated period. Students who have questions about their line of credit should call the Office of Business Affairs at 458-2160 or the ID Office at 456-5511, ext. 2577.
